The DUTA condemns the attempt by the five-member truncated Governing Body of Aurobindo College to hold illegal interviews for the post of Vice-Principal of Aurobindo College(M).

The college has followed the practice of appointing Vice-Principal by rotation according to seniority for more than a decade. The five-member truncated Governing Body  has been functioning since the expiry of the term of the  full Governing Body on 2.11.13, and is expected to take up routine matters until the appointment of the next Governing Body. It would be highly improper for this body to take decisions that bring about major policy changes in the governance of the college.

The DUTA had condemned the manner in which the regular Vice-Principal, Dr. Meenakshi Gupta, had been removed from office by the then Chairman Mr. Rohilla. Timely intervention by the DUTA Executive and members of the GB had prevented the Chairman and Principal from holding interviews for the post of Vice Principal. It is significant that that six members of the erstwhile GB had given a requisition to the then Chairman asking for an emergent meeting of the GB to discuss how the Vice-Principal had been removed from office without approval of the GB, but the Chairman Mr. Rohilla did not honour the requisition.

The DUTA would like to point out that replacing the democratic system of appointment of Vice Principal by rotation according to seniority by an arbitrary interview would be a regressive step. It is clear that the University authorities would like to manipulate the appointment of Vice-Principal who would then officiate as Principal after the current Principal Dr. Hari Om retires in December, 2013.

The DUTA warns the University authorities against destroying the democratic culture and subverting the long-established due processes in Delhi University. It demands that the illegal interviews for Vice-Principal be called off,  that Dr. Meenakshi Gupta be reinstated as Vice Principal of the College and that the principle of rotation by seniority be continued for the appointment of Vice principal of the College.
