Invitation for DUTA Press Conference on Four-Year Undergraduate Programme
By Students and Teachers at the DUTA Office on Monday, 16 December 2013 at 2 p.m.

To take stock of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme as it completes its first semester after implementation, the DUTA has called a Press Conference in which it will share the contents of detailed feedback that has come in from students of the FYUP in three colleges, viz. Shri Ram College of Commerce, Miranda House and St. Stephen’s College. In response to the DUTA Resolution on FYUP, the Staff Associations of these three colleges had independently undertaken to collect extensive feedback on the FYUP. Students and teachers will address the Press Conference and share their experiences of the FYUP.

Students and teachers have unambiguously rejected the FYUP, as has already been revealed earlier through the students’ referendum conducted in September 2013 and the detailed Staff Association Resolutions passed in 48 colleges of the University in November 2013. Despite this, the MHRD and UGC have not felt the need to intervene or demand a serious review of the programme. As a result, the University community and its stakeholders continue to feel alienated and angry at the Government’s indifference on such an important issue.

While it is commonly known that the Congress Governments at the Centre and Delhi State have blindly endorsed the FYUP and lent active support to the University Vice Chancellor when he forcibly implemented it despite criticism from wide quarters, the electoral outcome in the Delhi Assembly has reflected the widespread anger and sense of betrayal in students, parents and teachers who, as it is beginning to be revealed, have overwhelmingly voted against the Congress for not heeding public opinion on FYUP and allowing the students’ careers to be callously put at stake.

The tall claims made by the University on enhancing students’ skills for employability through the FYUP courses will be put under the scrutiny of facts at the Press Conference. The DUTA will also share its alternative proposal to the FYUP and its plan to organise a joint movement of students and teachers against it.

You are invited to cover the Press Conference which is going to be held at 2 pm at the DUTA Office on Monday, 16 December 2013.
