DUTA Statement given in Press Conference on Student Feedback on FYUP

The DUTA called a Press Conference on 16.12.13 to share the contents of detailed feedback that has come in from students of the FYUP in three colleges, viz. Miranda House, Shri Ram College of Commerce, and St. Stephen’s College. In response to the DUTA Resolution on FYUP, the Staff Associations of MH and SRCC had independently undertaken to collect extensive feedback on the FYUP, whereas the feedback from the students of St.Stephen’s is the official feedback sought by the University.

The Press Conference was attended by teachers and students from several colleges. Students and teachers of Miranda House, St. Stephens’ College and SRCC shared their experience of FYUP and the compiled data was displayed. Dr Harish Khanna, DUTA Secretary, and MLA(AAP), reiterated his party’s commitment to demand the rollback of FYUP. Ms.Anita Ghosh, Joint Secretary of DUTA, highlighted the run-down condition of the sports stadiums constructed during the CWG and the fact that sports students were not allowed to use them.

Press Report: A summary of student feedback on FYUP »

DU feedback questionnaire
The DU administration collected students’ feedback on FYUP in the month of October. The exercise was done only in a few colleges and was quickly abandoned by the administration after it received harsh feedback on FYUP from students of SRCC, KMC, MH and St. Stephen’s. At St.Stephen’s, the administration abandoned the exercise midway and did not even collect the feedback. The Staff Association photocopied the entire set in order to study the responses.

MH SA feedback questionnaire
The MH Staff Association designed its own feedback form. MH SA undertook the exercise to collect students’ response on FYUP as part of the anti-FYUP struggle.

Summary of students’ responses on FYUP collected at MH
Out of 1083 FYUP students at MH, the Staff Association was successful in collecting responses of 570 students. As the sample is large (and random) it successfully represents the students’ view on FYUP.

Summary of students’ responses on FYUP collected at SRCC
SRCC Staff Association repeated the exercise with their students and collected feedback (using the MH SA questionnaire). Out of some 800 students enrolled for FYUP, SRCC Staff Association was successful in collecting feedback of 148 students.
