Second day of dharna at Select City Walk, Saket
Over two hundred teachers and students gathered outside the Select City Walk in Saket today to demand the roll-back of the FYUP and the immediate filling up of vacant positions in the university. The colleges that participated in the dharna today were Deshbandhu College, Ramanujam College, Acharya Narendra Dev College, College of Vocational Studies, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College (M & E), PGDAV (M & E) and Sri Aurobindo College (M & E).
The office bearers of the DUTA were present at the dharna and addressed the gathering of teachers and students as well as passers-by appealing for support in their struggle to defend public funded education.
Another dharna was staged at Deshbandhu College which saw large participation of students of the college. Students spoke out against the FYUP, expressing their resentment against poor quality courses and lack of infrastructure. This outburst from students highlights the fact that the Foundation Courses offer nothing to them and are a complete waste of time. Eye catching posters and banners with slogans like “FYUP Roll-Back! DU V-C Go Back!” were displayed at the venue.
The DUTA also congratulates the students of Delhi University for making the bandh call of the DUSU and other students’ organisations a huge success. This is a proof once again of the growing resentment amongst students against the FYUP and the university authorities for irresponsibly playing with the lives of thousands of students admitted to the FYUP.
The third day of the dharna will be held on Monday, 20 January at four venues: Safdar Hashmi Road (Mandi House), JLN Metro Station (near Dyal Singh College), Outside Moti Lal Nehru College (South Campus) and outside Maitreyi College.
The DUTA appeals to all sections of society to join the movement against the destruction of this premier university in the name of “reforms”.
The DUTA will march in protest against the motivated and malafide enquiry set up against its President from the Arts Faculty to St. Stephen’s College and demonstrate there. The March will begin at 11.30 am.
