DUTA and DUCKU foil an attempt by University Administration to surreptitiously reinstate suspended principal G.K Arora
Large numbers of teachers and non-teaching staff of Bhim Rao Ambedkar College along with the DUTA and DUCKU foiled an attempt by the University Administration to surreptitiously reinstate suspended principal G.K Arora. An emergent meeting of the 5 member truncated Governing Body was fixed for Tuesday, 6 May 2014 and the agenda was sent by email on 5 May, one day before, listing the V.L. Garg Enquiry Committee Report without enclosing copy. (It may be recalled that this enquiry was set up by the Delhi Government into charges including those of sexual harassment levelled by Late Smt. Pavitra Bharadwaj against the Principal, GK Arora). The collective bodies of the teachers and karmacharis appealed to the two teacher representatives not to attend the meeting on the following grounds:
- The copy of the report had not been given to the members.
- The V.L. Garg Committee had no locus standi since any disciplinary action of a Delhi University employee is governed by Ordinance XVIII which provides for setting up of an independent enquiry by the Governing Body with proper terms of reference and charge sheet.
- The matter is sub-judice being subject of writ petition filed in Hon’ble High Court with notice by EC member Aditya Narain Mishra (WP (C) 7932/2013 and notice has been issued to the college.
- Such a serious matter should be taken only by the full 15 member Governing Body and not the 5 member truncated one.
The two teacher representatives from the college, in deference to the wishes of the collective, did not attend the Governing Body meeting on the above grounds and therefore the meeting could not be held as the quorum of 5 was not complete.
The DUTA demands that this item be dropped from the agenda of the Governing Body in view of the reasons laid out above.
