Press Release: 26 June 2014
The modified FYUP proposed by some individuals, most of whom are close to the Vice-Chancellor, which the Vice-Chancellor is using to further muddle the admission process is unacceptable. This action of the Vice-Chancellor to prolong the uncertainties for students and parents, especially those who have come from different parts of the country, is deplorable.
Besides, the DUTA rejects the proposal as it lacks academic merit. No responsible University treats students as guinea pigs. One batch of students has already been subjected to FYUP experiment designed with unforgivable haste and the attempt now is to force another batch into an even more hastily modified form of FYUP.
This restructured FYUP is in violation of the UGC order issued for the purpose of harmonising patterns across universities and for maintenance of standards. The FYUP courses are illegal and substandard. Modifications of any kind without following the due processes would amount to further illegality which is simply unacceptable.
Prof. Dinesh Singh should do better at this time when the patience of anxious students and parents are stretched to the maximum. Instead of this unpleasant drama of clinging to office and pleasing his ego, he should quit office to facilitate starting of admissions and working out the best possible salvage plan for the students already admitted to FYUP.
The DUTA has written to the Visitor today urging him to take cognizance of the impasse, annul the FYUP Ordinances, remove Prof. Dinesh Singh from office and institute an enquiry into the misgovernance and vitiation of the process of academic functioning and decision making.
The DUTA, along with karmacharis and students’ organisations, will hold a March tomorrow (27 March 2014) from the Arts Faculty Gate to the Vice-Chancellor’s residence at 11.30 am to demand the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor and an immediate start of admissions to the pre-FYUP three year UG courses.
