Dharna  to demand immediate restructuring of courses for 2013 FYUP students

IThe DUTA along with students’ organizations held a dharna at the Arts Faculty today from 2 – 4 pm, where teachers and students gathered in large numbers to demand the immediate restructuring of the courses for the students admitted under FYUP in 2013. Speakers at the dharna sharply criticised the irresponsible behaviour of the Vice-Chancellor in abdicating his responsibility towards the same students whom he treated as guinea pigs for his ill-conceived and hasty experimentation with FYUP. Students and teachers also drew attention to the fate of the students admitted to the B.Tech and BMS courses which hangs in balance even as the Vice-Chancellor seems to have gone underground. The University has not bothered to take any steps to restructure the courses and get the necessary approvals, as directed by the UGC.

Under the collective pressure of students and teachers, the terms of reference of the Monitoring and Advisory Committee set up by the University consisting of 12 principals to have been expanded to include the restructuring of FYUP courses. This points to the success of the collective pressure of students and teachers which has forced the Vice-Chancellor to yield. The DUTA welcomes this and hopes that this would lead to a smooth and quick resolution before the commencement of the new session on 21 July 2014. The DUTA has forwarded its suggestions for restructuring to the committee and hopes that due statutory processes would be followed by the university.

The UGC has also called a meeting today of the Standing Committee to advise the University for migration to the three year programme for students admitted in 2013. Two officials of the University have also been called, the Registrar and the Dean of Colleges.
