DUTA welcomes UGC letter to Principals to reappoint all Ad hoc teachers

The DUTA welcomes the letter sent by the UGC to all Principals of Delhi University Colleges taking cognizance of the serious crisis in the University regarding reappointment of ad-hoc teachers in the context of the transition to the three year programme and the commencement of the new session today. The UGC, in its letter, has asked Principals to reappoint all those teachers who fulfil the minimum eligibility and who were employed till the last working day of the previous session.

The DUTA condemns the vindictive behaviour of the Vice-Chancellor and his team in scheming in all possible ways to deny the ad-hoc teachers the opportunity to rejoin on the first day of the session. This includes arbitrary reduction of workload by miscalculating the size of tutorials in violation of University norms, imposition of the illegal roster disputed by the UGC and withdrawn by the University itself on the 7th of July, delaying the restructuring of the courses for students admitted in 2013 and having simultaneous interviews on the last two days before reopening.

The DUTA also condemns those principals who have collaborated with the Vice-Chancellor and his team in this vindictive behaviour and have refused to let the ad-hoc teachers join despite the letter of the UGC. These same principals have exploited ad-hoc teachers for years, extracted every kind of work from them including admissions and examinations and then find ways and means of denying them reappointment and summer salary.

The DUTA demands that all ad-hoc teachers be given their full due and be given employment irrespective of workload fluctuations till permanent interviews are held.

The DUTA demands a thorough enquiry into the continued obstructive behaviour of VC and his team. The DUTA further demands that the Vice-Chancellor be sent on leave pending enquiry into his misdeeds so that the chaos and anarchy he is plunging the university into is stopped and his rule of misgovernance could be brought to an end.
