In its Emergency Meeting to take stock of latest developments in the issue of justice for deceased BR Ambedkar College employee Pavitra Bharadwaj, the DUTA has strongly condemned the DU Vice Chancellor for revoking the suspension of the main accused, principal G K Arora, in an underhand and unauthorized manner. It observed a candle-light Protest between 5 pm and 7 pm in the evening against the criminal nexus between the BRAC Principal and the DU VC, which has shocked the University Community which demanding justice for Pavitra Bharadwaj.
In its 7 July 2014 Order, the Delhi High Court had expressly required all material related to petitions on GK Arora’s suspension to be placed before the Governing Body of BR Ambedkar College. Further, the Governing Body was asked to deliberate on the status of his suspension within six weeks of the date of issue of Order. However, without convening a meeting of the Governing Body, its chairman recommended revoking the suspension and VC promptly put his stamp of approval on the revocation on the same day. This shocking violation of procedure and contempt of the High Court is yet another instance of the indefensible methods through which the VC has continually sought to subvert processes of justice in the University.
The DUTA has demanded an immediate restoration of status quo with regard to principal G K Arora’s suspension. In this regard, the DUTA will bring all the facts to light by addressing a Press Conference next week. It will also take a delegation to the Lieutenant Governor to apprise him of the violation and demand his intervention.
