DUTA welcomes decision to recall the Registrar

The Delhi University Teachers’ Association welcomes the recall of the Registrar of Delhi University, Ms. Alka Sharma, by her parent department.

Ms. Sharma had been given extension of her deputation beyond the maximum  permissible period of seven years, that had expired on 21.1.2014. Her tenure was marked by extreme high-handedness, arrogance and extra-constitutional authority. She was fully complicit in the unprecedented flouting of the rule of law, misgovernance and the subversion of the culture of debate and dissent through intimidation and victimization.

Now that some relief has come with the imminent departure of the Registrar, the University community looks forward to the early departure of the Vice Chancellor, who has presided over the destruction of the academic and liberal ethos of Delhi University.

The DUTA demands a comprehensive enquiry into the misgovernance by the Vice Chancellor and his team, so that this inglorious chapter in the history of this University is not repeated.
