Press Release on continuing violence against people of the North East
Coordination Committee of Associations of Teachers in Delhi (CCATD) takes serious note of the continuing violence against the people, especially students and youths, from India’s Northeast residing in different parts of the country, particularly in metropolitan cities like, Bangalore and Delhi. Such racist violence is bound to be detrimental to the interest of the nation and its democratic and multicultural fabric. The idea of India is based on the motto `Unity in Diversity’.

CCATD calls upon the concerned authorities – Central, State and local bodies – to take stringent actions against the perpetrators of such violence which is erupting with greater frequency so that such wanton acts of violence do not take place. It appeals to the members of the civil society and all the democratic forces in the country to stand up against such violence. There is an urgent need to sensitize the police and the civil administration so that they react quickly and without any bias. There is a need to raise the consciousness of all people to greater tolerance towards each other. It also further calls upon the Government of India to legislate an appropriate anti-racist law to deal with such violence.

CCATD also shares the anguish and extends solidarity to the victims of such racist violence. Keeping with its ethos, CCATD shall extend its cooperation and solidarity to all those forces which have been fighting against such discriminatory and racist violence.
