DUTA Demonstration in Bhagini Nivedita College against misgovernance on “Good Governnace Day”

Members of the DUTA Executive and activists staged a protest demonstration at Bhagini Nivedita College, at the venue of a seminar on “Good Governance” that was being held at the College today, 24 December. Holding placards saying “Down with Bad Governance”, “Illegal Biometric Down Down!, “Stop Torturing adhocs”, activists sat in the seminar. After the speaker had finished, DUTA activists and teachers of the College raised a number of questions pointing out instances of malgovernance by the Principal, Dr. Purabi Saikia. The issues highlighted included the illegal imposition of biometric and attendance registers without any authorization from Delhi University Executive Council, forcing teachers working on adhoc basis to attend college from 9 am to 5 pm everyday even during the winter break, not following rotation principle for membership of Governing Body as per Ordinance XVIII, victimizing dissenters ,especially the Physical Education teacher and students, routinely insulting and humiliating teachers and non-teaching staff.

The DUTA demanded that the illegal imposition of biometric attendance be withdrawn forthwith as it is not backed by any University Ordinance. The DUTA appealed to the Principal to follow University rules and regulations, and respect the diginity of teachers, which is a basic requirement of good governance. The DUTA will intensify the campaign against the Principal if she does not stop the continuous assault on teachers’ and workers’ dignity.
