DUTA Condemns Wrongful Dismissal of Patel Chest Institute’s Whistleblower Asst. Registrar; Demands Immediate Re-instatement
The Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute (VPCI) Governing Body has arbitrarily dismissed the Institute’s Asst. Registrar, Sh. Ajit K. Ghosh, following an unauthorized ex-parte disciplinary inquiry against him, in which he was not met by the Inquiry Officer even once. According to the current rules governing the non-teaching employees of Delhi University (adopted in 2013), the Patel Chest Institute’s Governing Body does not have disciplinary powers to institute any such Inquiry. Further, in a similar case pertaining to another Asst. Registrar, Sh. C. Ramesh, involving the same Governing Body, the Delhi High Court had recently ordered immediate reinstatement of the said officer after rejecting the dismissal on the grounds no disciplinary powers have been delegated to the Governing Body.
Sh. Ajit K. Ghosh has been vocal in raising issues of serious financial irregularities and administrative lapses in the VPCI, while also standing up for other employees such as Mr. C. Ramesh, who have been victimised by the administration. His dismissal seems to be prima facie motivated by the Institute Director’s desperate attempts to curb dissent and persecute Whistleblowers.
The DUTA condemns this wrongful dismissal in the strongest terms and demands immediate re-instatement of Sh. Ajit K. Ghosh.
