DUTA Press Release on Hansraj College Show Cause
The DUTA strongly condemns the Acting Principal of Hansraj College, Dr. V. K. Kawatra, for issuing an unwarranted ‘Show Cause’ Notice to the Executive Members of the Hansraj College Staff Association on the flimsy and imagined pretext of the Staff Association having “interfered in the administrative working of the University of Delhi/College.”
The Hansraj Staff Association Office Bearers had merely forwarded a DUTA letter (dated 9/1/2015) to the Principal (with copies to teachers-in-charges of all departments). In this letter addressed to principals of all colleges, the DUTA had questioned the premises on the basis of which the Head of Dept. of Commerce in DU, Prof. J. P Sharma, had asked colleges to ensure that all papers traditionally taught by Departments of English, Eco, Pol. Sc., Math and Philosophy to Commerce students should hereafter be taught by the Dept. of Commerce. The DUTA had appealed to all principals to maintain status quo in the matter, since there is no Academic Council resolution on which the Commerce HOD’s instructions were based.
A ‘Show Cause’ Notice to members of the Staff Association for mere forwarding/ circulation of a DUTA letter is ludicrous, and the DUTA demands its immediate withdrawal. It warns the Acting Principal of Hansraj College against such hostile action that seeks to obstruct the normal working of the Staff Association and the DUTA.
The DUTA has called for an Emergency Meeting of its Executive on Monday, 9 Feb, to discuss the matter. In this meeting, a CAG Report indicting the Hansraj College authorities for grave financial irregularities will also be placed for consideration.
