VPCI ignores High Court Order on Asst. Registrar’s Reinstatement; DUTA stands in Solidarity with Wronged Officer
The DUTA condemns the Vallabbhai Patel Chest Institute (VPCI) authorities and DU administration for choosing to brazenly ignore the Delhi High Court Review Bench’s Order (dated 29 Jan 2015) which had set aside the illegal dismissal of VPCI Asst. registrar Mr. C. Ramesh and had asked the VPCI to reinstate him in office.
Till date, the High Court Order has not been obeyed by the VPCI Governing Body. As usual, the DU administration has decided to maintain silence and not intervene on behalf of the victimized officer. The grounds for Mr. Ramesh’s reinstatement lie clearly in the fact – emphasized by the High Court – that the VPCI Governing Body has no statutory authority to take disciplinary action against University-appointed employees. This would also apply to the wrongful dismissal of another Asst. Registrar, Mr. Ajit K. Ghosh. Mr. Ghosh is also being forced to seek justice in Court while top officials of Delhi University are continuing to support the flagrant violation of the DU Act, Statutes and Ordinances.
The refusal to obey the Court’s Order in the matter of Mr. C. Ramesh has placed the VPCI Governing body in Contempt of Court. Hence, a Contempt Petition moved by Mr. Ramesh has been justifiably admitted in the High Court. However, the DUTA appeals to the VPCI Governing Body to relent from its unreasonable and unjust position and reinstate Mr. Ramesh immediately. The failure to do so will invite direct action by the DUTA. The DUTA reiterates its solidarity and support for Mr. C. Ramesh and Mr. Ajit K. Ghosh, as well as for all the other employees who are being victimized for speaking up against the irregularities and illegalities being committed by the VPCI Director, Dr. Rajendra Prasad and Jt. Registrar, Mr. P. Santhanam.
