DYAL SINGH COLLEGE TEACHERS ASSOCIATION
Dyal Singh College,
Lodhi Road, New Delhi – 110003

Date : 04 March 2015
PRESS RELEASE

Dyal Singh College Teachers’ Association (DSCTA), along with Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) held a dharna outside the Dyal Singh College gate to demand correct implementation of reservation roster in Dyal Singh College prior to the commencement of the appointment process in teaching positions. Large number of teachers from college and DUTA executive members, Delhi University AC/EC members and activists from various colleges participated in dharna from 12:00 – 3:00 PM.
As a matter of record, the college is prepared to go ahead with appointment process without rectifying the anomalies in reservation roster. Against 134 vacant teaching positions in the college, the administration had a truncated advertisement for 108 positions sometime back. There only 46 positions were identified for SC/ST/OBC setting aside even the university norms that are to be followed in the case. DSCTA committee on roster had identified the anomalies and submitted the same to the authorities but to no avail.
Dr. C. Sadasiva, President DSCTA informed that it will be a great travesty of social justice if the appointments are done without rectifying the roster. “The appointments are long overdue. Students and the society have suffered due to lack of permanent appointments in the college but now to have it against a faulty roster will only further compromise the interests of students, teachers and society” he asserted. Addressing the gathering Ms. Nandita Narain, President DUTA said that the crisis in higher education is aggravated by the blatant sabotage of the constitutionally mandated provisions of reservation by the Delhi University administration. “Dyal Singh College situation is representative of the great malaise in University of Delhi where the Principals, the Delhi University Vice Chancellor (VC) and his team have openly violated the decisions of the Parliament in the matter of reservation”. She also said that DUTA, DSCTA and associations of students and karamcharis will step up the agitation if justice does not prevail in the college and the University.
