DUTA Press Release: 10 May 2017

As a result of the sustained pressure built by DUTA that staged an all night sit-in at the VC Residence, the VC finally met the DUTA office bearers after a gap of ten months.

The action programme was held to highlight the attack on the service conditions of physical education teachers and librarians as well as to take up other pressing issues such as appointments with correct roster, promotions (retrospective implementation of API and counting of past service), pension, absorption and confirmation, etc.

The discussion on physical education teachers and librarians was fruitful and is likely to lead to an early resolution. The VC informed the delegation that the university would be starting the recruitment process without any further delay.
The VC’s response in regard to the release of pension for those not covered by the court case was also positive.

The VC also assured the restoration of the democratic composition of the Health Centre Advisory Committee.

He expressed his regrets for not having met the DUTA for ten months and promised regular meetings with the DUTA to take up other pending issues.
