DUTA PRESS RELEASE; 28 October 2017

DUTA postpones the action program scheduled for 31 Oct at Vidhan Sabha after Delhi Government announces release of salaries for this month as interim relief

The DUTA had called for a dharna at Vidhan Sabha demanding immediate release of salaries and grants by Delhi Government to the 28 colleges aided/ and maintained by it.

The grants were frozen because of the stand off between Delhi University and Delhi Government. The 28 Delhi University colleges aided or maintained by the Delhi Government await formation of Governing Bodies for over a year.

Because of the stoppage of grants, the colleges would not have been able to release salaries to teaching and non-teaching staff. This would have created crisis in the personal lives of employees. The DUTA President and Office Bearers met Dy. CM, Govt of NCT of Delhi, Sh. Manish Sisodia on 16 October to request for release for grants. To mitigate the crisis resulting from stoppage of salaries, the DUTA requested that salaries of employees be released as interim solution while the matter was being resolved.

The decision of Delhi Government to release salaries for this month brings temporary relief. In response to the decision taken by Delhi Government,  the DUTA postpones its action program.

The DUTA hopes that Delhi University will also reciprocate well and responsibly to this gesture by taking all necessary steps to resolve the matter on priority basis. At the same time, the DUTA firmly believes that the threat of Delhi Government to stop salaries and grants is uncalled for and is unacceptable to the teaching community. This will result in unrest amongst teachers and students. Stoppage of grants will push these colleges, which are facing issues of governance in absence of full Governing Bodies, into  further crisis.

The DUTA urges the Delhi Government and University of Delhi that the Governing Bodies be formed without any further delay.
