DUTA resolves to intensfy agitation, involving  students and mobilising public opinion

More than a thousand teachers participated in the DUTA General Body Meeting held in the Auditorium, Hansraj College after which the teachers marched to the VC Office to demand permanent appointments on urgent basis, regularisation/absorption of  adhoc and temprary teachers and resolution of issues related to promotions and pensions.

In the GBM, which was called to discuss 7th Pay Revision and UGC draft Regulations, speaker after speaker underlined the crisis as the Government pushes for commercialisation of public funded higher education, leading to massive hike fees and detioration of service and working conditions of teachers and non-teaching employees.

The GB resolved to intensify the struggle in the coming days by involving students and mobilising public opinion. The DUTA will initiate an Online Signature Campaign amongst teachers, students, parents, researchers and concerned citizens against the 30-70% funding formula, push towards self-financing through Regulations on Graded Autonomy and  Autonomous Colleges, Loans through HEFA instead of Grants and other retrograde policies related to higher education.

The DUTA , along with the AIFUCTO and FEDCUTA, will form a human chain at the UGC on 12th March to demand 100% funding of Central and State Universities,  immediate filling up of vacant posts through permament appointments with release of second tranche posts, regularisation/absorption of ad-hoc and temporary teachers, time-bound promotions without the retrograde API, resolution of anomalies in VIth Pay Revision, release of pension for retired employees etc.

This will be followed by a Black Week, during which College cluster-wise dharnas  and intensive mobilisation of students will be held. At the end of the week, students and teachers will mobilise the public through a Jan Samwad at public spaces such as metro stations. From 19th March, DUTA will observe a five-day strike, along with various action programmes. This will be followed by a Citizen’s March to Parliament on 28th March.
