DUTA Delegation meets Shri Rahul Gandhi on the issue of Reservation Roster
A delegation consisting of the Delhi University Teachers’ Association office bearers along with former DUTA Presidents Nandita Narain and Shaswati Mazumdar met Shri Rahul Gandhi today to seek his help to resolve the issue of the reservation roster. The delegation was accompanied by Smt. Ranjeet Ranjan, MP (LS).
The delegation appraised Shri Gandhi of the implications of the 5th March letter from the UGC asking for implementation of department/subject wise roster instead of the current practice of taking the University/ college as a unit. This would lead to a drastic reduction in the number of reserved positions as is already seen from the advertisements that have come out. In Delhi University, where under a High Court directive the University had barely begun filling thousands of vacant teaching posts, the process has been brought to a complete halt. Though the MHRD/UGC has filed a SLP in the matter, the DUTA has been demanding the withdrawal of the letter so that the current position of reserved positions does not change.
Shri Rahul Gandhi gave a patient hearing to the issues and promised to help in every possible way to get the matter resolved. He also assured the delegation that his party would look into the issues of Graded Autonomy, Autonomous Scheme of Colleges as well as all other policy issues that threaten the existence of public-funded education in the country.
