DUTA Letter to Shri Venkaiah Naidu, The Chancellor, University of Delhi: 13.11.2018
Date: Nov 13, 2018
Shri Venkaiah Naidu,
The Chancellor,
University of Delhi,
Delhi – 110007
Sub: Regarding Non-Resolution of Important Issues in Delhi University that Require Your Urgent Intervention
Dear Sir,
We are honoured to have you with us at the 95th Annual Convocation of Delhi University. We would also like to use this opportunity to urge you to intervene on behalf of teachers on certain crucial issues in the University that require resolution at the earliest.
As you are aware, a large section of Delhi University teachers have been endlessly waiting for appointments, absorption, promotions and pensions. It has been over a year since our Hon’ble President, Ram Nath Kovind, directed the University to carry out appointments. However, the inefficiency of the Delhi University administration has resulted in the recruitment of only around 150 teaching staff out of the approximate 4000 staff awaiting regularisation. It even failed to abide by the High Court deadline to fill up all teaching posts. Now, of course, the matter of recruitment hinges on the Central Government’s publically stated decision to bring an ordinance to reinstate the 200 point roster taking college as a unit. We request you to intervene and facilitate the bringing of the ordinance at the earliest. In fact, so many teachers are working for so many years without being made permanent that we urge you to take special interest in evolving ways at the level of the MHRD, UGC and DU to absorb the existing adhoc teaching staff.
We request your kind favour on the matter of pending promotions, and ask that you direct the University administration to proactively conduct promotions without any delay. The University needs to adopt the UGC 2018 Regulations at the earliest through meetings of the Academic Council and the Executive Council. Of late, such meetings of the statutory bodies have become a rarity and this has clearly not helped the issue of promotions which remains neglected.
One of the most vulnerable sections of teachers are our retired colleagues who have served with utmost integrity during their service period and now remain pension-less without any fault of theirs. The government will be failing these brave soldiers of the teaching community if it does not ensure that all categories of pensioners get their just due. We appeal to you to help these affected retired teachers at the earliest.
We look forward to your proactive approach in immediately getting these issues resolved and prevent further misery to the affected parties. When we came to know that you will be gracing the occasion, we decided to reschedule our Dharna against the DU administration to a future date. We seek total cooperation from you and appeal to you to ensure that all the long-standing just demands of the teachers of the University are met.
Yours sincerely,
Rajib Ray President, DUTA Vivek Chaudhary Secretary, DUTA |
