JFME: Movement to demand withdrawal UGC Guidelines on Exams, please mobilise and join action programmes

Dear Friends,

As you know, the MHRD notification and the UGC Guidelines issued on 6th July, have made examinations compulsory for all terminal semester students.

On the other hand, teachers and students from across the country have been demanding that in view of the rising cases of COVID 19, no examinations should be held. Terminal semester students must be given the same relief that has been given to the continuing students, in terms of evaluation of grades for the semester. Many State Governments had given this relief to students that has now been jeopardized by the UGC Guidelines.

The Joint Forum for Movement on Education (JFME) has planned to launch a series of action programmes in support of this demand.

1) Online Petition to the PM: JFME has initiated a petition to the Prime Minister of India to demand the immediate withdrawal of the Revised UGC Guidelines, the immediate cancellation of the mandatory requirement of examinations for final year students and for alternative forms to be adopted for grant of degrees.
Please forward this petition to students, teachers and members of civil society to make our voices heard for a fair, uniform and credible system to evaluate students and grant them degrees without delay.

2) Webinar on the Issue to be held on Sunday, 26 July from 11 am to 1 pm. Eminent scholars, leaders of political parties, representatives of Teacher’s and Students’ unions from across the country will participate in the programme.

The suggested list of speakers include:

1. Prof Thorat, former Chairperson, UGC
2. Prof Mungekar, former Member, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education
2. Faizan Mustafa, VC Nalsar Law University
3. Prof Roop Rekha Verma, former VC, Lucknow University
