Miranda House Staff Association Statement in Solidarity with Prof Hany Babu and Dr Jenny Rowena

We are deeply distressed by the arrest of Prof Hany Babu by the NIA in connection with the Bhima Koregaon case. Prof Hany Babu is a respected academic and Bahujan rights’ activist and his arrest is yet another instance of the relentless and incremental hounding of civil rights’ advocates and critics of the present regime. We are further distressed by the harassment faced by Dr Jenny Rowena, his spouse and our colleague at Miranda House whose house was searched on the morning of the 2nd of August, when she was alone with her school-going daughter. This is merely the latest episode in the continual harassment of Prof Hany Babu, whose house was raided in September 2019. We stand by Prof Hany Babu and Dr Jenny Rowena in full solidarity and support and condemn in the strongest terms this witch-hunt of progressive voices across the country. We demand the immediate release of all those arrested in the Elgar-Parishad—Bhima Koregaon case and of all the activists against CAA-NRC who have been falsely implicated in the Delhi riots.
