Hindu College Staff Association Resolution in Solidarity with Dr P. K. Vijayan

The Staff Association of Hindu College  convened an online meeting on 17th August, 2020 at 5.30 PM to discuss the pressing issue of Dr. P. K. Vijayan, who has been summoned by NIA on 14th August. Dr. P. K. Vijayan is a Faculty in the Department of English, Hindu College.

The Association unanimously expressed unconditional support &  solidarity for Dr. Vijayan. In one voice, the Association resolved that this act of summoning Dr. Vijayan, is effectively an attempt to subvert democratic institutions and to suppress the academic voice of dissent.

Dr. Vijayan is not only an academic scholar of great repute and a popular teacher, but he has constantly been a  voice of marginalised & deprived sections, particularly of Dalits, Women, Specially-abled and OBCs.

The teaching fraternity of Hindu College resolved to stand with Dr. Vijayan and  expressed concern that such high-handedness of Government Agencies will significantly vitiate the sacred academic ambience of the college and the university. The academic institutions and  the teachers have the responsibility to uphold and impart a life of questioning, dialogue, discourse, debate and criticism.   The Association does not regard this as an individual matter of Dr. Vijayan, rather maintain that such interference will completely undermine the democratic character of our institution and negatively impact the teaching-learning process of the Institution.
