The President/Secy,
Staff Association,

30.4.2019

Dear Colleagues,

As you know, members of the DUTA Executive and activists have been sitting on an indefinite Day-Night Dharna outside the Vice Chancellor’s Residence since 23.4.2019, demanding the withdrawal of the letters issued by the Principals of Vivekanand College and Shyamlal(E) College to two Associate Professors in Physical Education, arbitrarily reducing their retirement age to 62 years.

In its meeting today, the DUTA Executive has decided to continue the ongoing agitation against the assault on Service Conditions of Physical Education teachers, the arbitrary functioning of some Principals who are openly flouting all rules and regulations,  and the high-handedness of the VC who has so far refused to intervene in the matter. The Executive decided to intensify the agitation by observing a relay hunger strike from 2.5.2019. A Public Meeting is also being planned to which the DUCKU, DUSU and other student organisations, as well as leaders of political parties and sports celebrities will be invited. The date and time will be intimated soon.

We appeal to all Staff Associations to help to intensify the agitation by joining the DUTA ongoing day-night Dharna at the VC’s Residence in large numbers. Please also convene Staff Association meetings by 4.5.2019 and send us feedback by 11 am on 6.5.2019 for further intensification of struggle including suggestions on examination and admission boycott.

The DUTA Executive has also decided to hold a Black Flag Demonstration tomorrow  ie 1st May, at 2 pm at Gate No 1, while the University celebrates its 97th Foundation Day. The DUTA finds it hypocritical that the DU VC and his team are celebrating Foundation Day while weakening in every possible way the foundations of the University with their arbitrary, non-transparent and vindictive functioning. Can Foundation Day be celebrated while the rights of those who have built the institutions are trampled?

All must join  DUTA Demonstration at Gate No 1, tomorrow, 1 May at 2 pm.

Let us celebrate May Day by fighting against the assault on Service Conditions of teachers.

In solidarity,

Rajib Ray
President, DUTA

Vivek Chaudhary
Secretary, DUTA
