DUTA calls for Flash Protest Dharna on 16 January

The DUTA condemns the DU administration for capitulating completely to the dictats of the MHRD by refusing once again to  bring the recommendations of the sub-committee to the AC meeting called for 16 January. The DUTA takes serious note of the attempts to further subvert the Ordinances and Statutes of the University by bringing in an additional clause on contractual appointments which does not exist in Delhi University as of now. Instead of standing its ground to pressures of the Government and demanding that the ad-hoc teachers working currently against the 4000 odd substantive positions in DU be absorbed, the VC has gone back on his promise to place the recommendations of the committee even as the concerns which was promised after the overnight sit-in of the AC members. The DUTA warns the University administration and the Government that it will not tolerate this insidious attempt to push the teaching profession towards contractualisation. While the attempts towards contractual appointments in teaching posts is not new and has been brought in earlier UGC Regulations too, the persistence with which this Government is pushing it through a frontal attack on the autonomy of universities by mandating no deviation from the UGC Regulations is condemnable.

The DUTA calls upon teachers for a Flash Protest Dharna at 9.30 am on 16th January, the day of the AC meeting, to send a strong signal to the Government. The DUTA will continue with its announced programme of 17th and 18th January 2019 of a two day strike along with a Long March on 17th from Ramlila Grounds to Parliament to demand the absorption of ad-hoc teachers with the correct 200 point university/college wise roster and a Dharna at the VC’s Office on 18th January.
