DUTA ends Evaluation Boycott in the interest of students and with assurances from the MHRD that working adhoc teachers will not be displaced; DUTA resolves to go on Strike if adhocs are displaced on the basis of 5 March UGC Notification

The DUTA General Body, in its meeting held on 18 June, resolved by majority to take forward its agitation through alternate modes in the interest of thousands of students. The DUTA noted that the student community has supported the struggle throughout and including the more than one month of evaluation boycott. The DUTA had always tried to ensure that examination results are declared on time so that the interests of students are not hurt. It has noted the appeals made by students and assures them that it is committed to their future. It appeals to all teachers to contribute their best in ensuring that the results are declared on time.

The DUTA will review the situation after the 2 July Supreme Court hearing on the Review Petition pertaining to the Reservation Roster. Meanwhile it will continue to mobilise wider political support on the issue of Roster to ensure that the Constitutional rights of SCs, STs and OBCs are protected. DUTA will ensure questions are raised in the Parliament. It will seek a meeting with the President of India on the matter. DUTA will hold a protest for Social Justice at Parliament Street on 2 July.

DUTA is committed to defending the unitary and public-funded character of Delhi University. It will continue to resist any machination or devious attempt to dismember the University and push its constituent colleges towards privatisation through the autonomous scheme.

DUTA will give a call for intense struggle including Strike if any attempt is made to cause displacement of teachers by using the UGC’s 5 March Notification on Roster.

Despite fighting on issues that affect the livelihood concerns and rights of the most precarious sections of teachers, the DUTA has always remained committed to the welfare of students. The withdrawal of the Evaluation Boycott is in this spirit of empathy and solidarity. It now remains to be seen whether the MHRD and DU Administration are able to go beyond usual platitudes and are able to show genuine concern for the students and teachers.
