FEDCUTA PRESS RELEASE, 14.12.2017
The FEDCUTA strongly condemns the illegal and high-handed action by the administration of Assam University in cancelling the appointment of Dr Charvak, Associate Professor, Department of Mass Communication. The appointment, made as far back as in 2008, was summarily cancelled through orders dated 28.11.2017, reportedly at the behest of a letter from UGC/MHRD based on a complaint made by the National General Secretary of the ABVP.
This kind of interference in the day-to-day functioning of Central Universities by the MHRD at the behest of the student wing of the ruling party has led to much turbulence and turmoil in universities such as Hyderabad Central University, Central University of Haryana etc.
The FEDCUTA demands immediate withdrawal of the said order, and condemns similar attempts to harass other Faculty members. It exhorts the administration of Assam University to uphold the rule of law, and not act under the pressure of vested interests pursuing a politically motivated agenda.
The FEDCUTA expresses its complete solidarity with the struggle of our colleagues in AUTA in demanding immediate withdrawal of the illegal order, and warns of a nation wide struggle against this kind of victimisation of Faculty in Central Universities.
