Members of the DUTA Executive and other teachers sat on a dharna outside the Vice-Chancellor’s Office today to protest against the University Administration for still not issuing confirmation letters to teachers appointed through due process. It may be noted that the period of probation is for 12 months and that the probation may be extended only in exceptional circumstances wherein the Executive Council has to decide on the extension and inform the teachers before the expiry of eleven months after appointment. Since these teachers were given no such intimation before the expiry of the eleven months, this delay is in gross violation of Annexure 1-A to Ordinance XI of the DU Act, Statutes and Ordinances which categorically defines the probation period at twelve months.
Speakers at the dharna highlighted the fact that these teachers are being unduly harassed and denied their right to confirmation. While it was noted that some teachers have been given their confirmation letter, the DUTA reiterates its demand that there be no further delay in issue of confirmation letters and the harassment meted out teachers by the administration in one garb or another stop.
The DUTA has called for a Pen Down Strike and Public Meeting at the Arts Faculty Gate tomorrow, 7 June 2017, from 11-2 to demand the withdrawal of the retrospective application of API in DU which has effectively denied promotion to more than 3000 teachers and the counting of past service for promotion.
