VC declares courses passed in the AC meeting held today
AC members protest by staging a sit in the the Council Hall

The MHRD moved ahead with the agenda of implementing Choice Based Credit System by taking Vice Chancellors on board, ignoring the growing body of criticism, shows that there is no space of autonomy of the Universities or serious engagement with syllabi thrusted on students. This has only forced universities into a state of chaos and would cause them to go downhill.

After having conducted the course restructuring in a sordid manner, copying the hurriedly prepared courses by the UGC, the University administration makes false claims of due procedures and teachers’ participation. It is also shameful that the administration in a press statement made false allegations to cover up the irresponsible manner in which it has succumbed to the pressure to change the courses for the students who have already been admitted under the old scheme. It claims that the switch would be seamless when barely a week is left and the students admitted now have not been asked to exercise their options over electives in this semester. Apart from lowering the standards, immediate chaos may ensue since proper timetables cannot be prepared without these options the consequent teaching load distribution. Elected AC members gave their dissents on the implementation and the structure of the courses under CBCS as well as on the conduct of the AC meeting.

The DUTA held a continuous dharna at the Vice-Chancellor’s office today and was joined by a large number of students from various organisations. Nilotpal Basu, former Rajya Sabha Member, addressed the protestors, expressing solidarity with the struggle against CBCS and emphasising that the struggle in Delhi University was part of a countrywide struggle against the policies of the government to open the field of higher education to intenational trade under the WTO/GATS.


As part of the DUTA action programme to highlight destruction of the University, eighteen elected Academic Council members have decided to do a sit in inside the Council Hall. The DUTA will continue its agitation outside.
