Press Release: 2
September 2014
DUTA WELCOMES POSTPONEMENT OF UNIVERSITY
WORKSHOP ON FLAWED SC/ST/OBC ROSTER AND DEMANDS SETTING UP OF REPRESENTATIVE
COMMITTEE FOR URGENT RESOLUTION OF ISSUE
Delhi
University had announced a Workshop for 1 September on the modalities for
implementation of the Reservation Roster in teaching posts. Though it had
recently been forced by the UGC to withdraw its counter-affidavit claiming that
it was not bound to implement the Roster in accordance with Govt of India
guidelines, the announcement of the workshop made it clear that it was still
going ahead with the flawed decision of the EC meeting of 28.9.2013.
Upon
coming to know about the Workshop, to which no teachers had been invited, and
which would use the flawed EC decision of 28.9.2013 as a basis, the DUTA
represented to the MHRD against this move.
The
DUTA notes that, perhaps on the intervention of the MHRD/UGC, the University
administration has now announced postponement the Workshop “till further
notice”.
The
DUTA had appealed for a special meeting only on the Roster, so that the matter
could be resolved as early as possible. In keeping with his refusal to talk to
the DUTA, the Vice-Chancellor has refused to respond to these appeals.
The
DUTA demands an urgent resolution of the matter before the current University
administration makes further moves that may complicate it further and delay
even more the pressing need for permanent appointments against the over 4500
vacant teaching posts. The DUTA  demands the immediate setting up of a
committee with representatives from MHRD, UGC, Delhi University and DUTA for
this purpose. This would pave the way for holding permanent appointments
without any further delay.

Harish Khanna, Secretary
