The DUTA along with the Staff Association of Hindu College held a protest demonstration at Punj House, Nehru Place, where in a shameful manner a meeting of the Governing Body of the Hindu College was being held in a commercial office. The demonstration was against the arbitrary manner of functioning of the Governing Body and its Chairperson, who is unmindful of and insensitive to the erosion of the academic culture of the college by his actions.
Two teachers of the college have been placed on suspension on unfounded and dubious grounds for more than a year. It should be noted that the teachers had been suspended even before the deadline given to them to file their replies to the motivated show-cause notice was over. The suspension is continuing against the rules and even an RTI query on the matter received a reply that the documents were not available with the college. These include the letter of Governing Body to the Vice-Chancellor seeking his approval for suspension, the letter of approval of the Vice-Chancellor as well as the further proceedings of the Governing Body. Such arbitrariness would be unacceptable in Mr. Punj’s business enterprises let alone an academic institution.
The Governing Body operating out of this business establishment has also served show cause notices to seven teachers who had sought the attention of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi to several illegalities and issues of concern about the college. The attempt to silence teachers’ voices will not succeed and Mr. Punj’s false belief that all wrong-doing can be pushed under the carpet will not last.
The DUTA demands immediate end to the suspension of the two teachers and the withdrawal of the show cause notices. The DUTA will take up the demand for an independent inquiry into the malicious and repulsive functioning of the Governing Body of the Hindu College and its Chairperson.
