Cluster Dharnas to intensify struggle on FYUP and appointments
Students and teachers of Delhi University have rejected FYUP. Continuous action programmes by students, their feedback on FYUP collected by some Staff Associations, discussions on social media and statements in the press have highlighted the complete failure of FYUP.
The DUTA is stepping up its campaign against the FYUP with a series of dharnas to be held from 16 January to 22 January 2014 in various clusters of colleges. (Poster with schedule attached). Clusters of colleges will hold dharnas together in public places including Select City Walk, Saket; Safdar Hashmi Road near Mandi House, JLN Metro Station, Arts Faculty Gate, Vishwa Vidyalaya Metro Station, Rajouri Garden Metro Station and Shankar Road-Pusa Road Corner. The DUTA will also collect students’ feedback on FYUP from across the colleges over next fortnight. Through this action programme we wish to take our demands of FYUP Roll Back and filling up of vacant posts into the public domain.
Besides the roll back, the DUTA demands immediate relief to the current batch in the form of a drastic reduction in the number of Foundation Courses. All the DC I and DC II courses should be accommodated in three years so that they can earn Honours degree in three years.
The DUTA reiterates its demands for regular appointments on the basis of correct reservation roster, Selection Committees as per UGC Regulations and calling of all eligible candidates for interviews without the arbitrary screening points.
Also on 18 January, there will be a protest march and demonstration at St. Stephen’s College against the Inquiry Committee constituted by the Governing Body of St. Stephen’s College against the DUTA President (Poster).
The teachers’ movement for the past few years has been consistently fighting academic restructuring which has resulted in dilution of academic quality. The restructuring is part of systematic assault on public funded Universities. The DUTA appeals to students, parents and concerned citizens to join our movement to safeguard the future of thousands of students and teachers and of higher education in the country.
