Press Release, 15 December 2014

Protest at Parliament Street demanding correct implementation of 200 point roster in DU
Academic Forum for Social Justice, Delhi University SC/ST Teachers’ Association, Forum of Academics for Social Justice and Sambhavna organized a joint dharna today at Parliament Street to protest against the gross violation of the constitutional entitlement and provisions of reservation by the Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University resulting in the denial of social justice due to the manner in which the 200 point reservation roster has been implemented. The DUTA and several students’ and teachers’ organizations from across universities in Delhi joined the protest including the AIBSF, AIBSP, AISA, AISF, ASJJ, BAPSA, CFI, CS, CTF, DTF, DSU, JANRANG, JNUSU, KYS, NSUI, SFI, TNM and UDSF.
Members of Parliament from several parties including Shri. Mani Shankar Aiyar from the Congress, Dr. Udit Raj from the BJP, Shri. Sitaram Yechury from the CPI (M), Shri. Dharam Vira Gandhi from the AAP and Shri. Sharad Yadav from the JDU came in solidarity with the protesting teachers and students and addressed the gathering. They expressed their resolve to raise the issue in Parliament to ensure that the due rights of the marginalized sections are not subverted in a premier university of the country. Speakers also expressed their dismay that the Vice-Chancellor has ignored the letters from the UGC and the MHRD pointing out that the reservation roster is not in order and asking the university to comply with the UGC Guidelines of 2006. The issue acquires urgency as the process of appointments for nearly 5000 vacant posts is underway in Delhi University. Teachers and students also highlighted the fact that the removal of the present VC, who is guilty of gross administrative and financial irregularities and abuse of power, is necessary for restoring normalcy in the functioning of Delhi University.
A memorandum was submitted to the Prime Minister, Shri. Narendra Modi, appealing to him to examine the implementation of the Reservation policy in Delhi University and requesting his urgent intervention to ensure that the Constitutional rights of aspirants from SC, ST, OBC and PWD categories are protected.
